The Brazilian snake-necked turtle (Hydromedusa maximiliani) is a species of turtle in the Chelidae family. It is endemic to Brazil. It is one of the smallest Brazilian freshwater turtles. This species is very sedentary. The average daily dispacement only reaches 2 meters. This animal prefers streams with sandy and rocky bottoms and clear water. If possible with small waterfalls. In some areas of the Atlantic rain forest, the population density can be very high.
